The Samsung American Legion Scholarship is an endowed scholarship fund by the Samsung Corporation to be administered by the American Legion.  It was to show appreciation to the U.S. veterans of the Korean War for coming to the aid of Korea and its struggle against communist forces.
To be eligible you must be a  high school junior who participated and completed either the American Legion’s Boy state or the American Legion Auxiliary Girl State program.  You must also be a direct descendant (child, grandchild or great-grandchild, and etc.) of a US wartime veteran.  This veteran must have served active duty during on of the American Legion’s eligibility dates.  Click here to see the designated dates.
The scholarship is for undergraduate studies.  It may be applied to tuition, books, fees and room and board.  Selection of winners is based, in part, upon the following: academic record, community service, involvement of school and community activities and financial need.  There is an additional bonus for descendants of an US Korean veteran.
