Letters from Home Program is a non-profit, 501c3 corporation dedicated to supporting all branches of the military stationed away from home.  It is an all volunteer based program stationed out of Johnsonburg, PA.  It was founded by Christine Jovenetti.  Here is her story:

“Little did we know in 2003 that when her son went to boot camp in Ft. Benning, GA what the result would be.  Christine Jovenitti, received a letter from her son attending basic training at the start of the Operation Iraqi Freedom.  In that letter he expressed a yearning for news from home.  He told her that in order to receive a piece of mail he had to do push-ups.  As a result she got the idea of collecting as many notes of support and putting them in one big envelope.  After receiving his first package of letters from home that she collected in the small town in Rural Pennsylvania on Memorial Day weekend he wrote back.  In this letter he stated that for the news and support he received from home, he would do hundreds of push-ups, as it made a difference in his day. So, the concept was born …The Letters From Home Program and it has blossomed into a program that reminds soldiers of who and what they are fighting for.  Christine Jovenitti, founder and director of this program, takes great pride in making sure that the people of this great nation know the value of this. The Letters From Home Program emerged and has made great strides in pride across the nation for a way for people to communicate their love and support for what our troops are doing for us.”

Care packages containing eats, drinks, treats and phone cards are boxed and mailed. All shapes and sizes of cards and letters are bundled and mailed.  The organization has mailings to soldiers and sailors every April, July and November.  As of the last mailing they have sent 57,368 care packages and 393,350 cards to patiently waiting military.

It is one of the nicest ways we can support our troops and  thank all the young men and women who sacrifice so much for the safety and freedoms of not us, the United State but all around the world.

The Letters from Home Program motto is:  “UNTIL THEY COME HOME- WE WILL SEND THEM LETTERS FROM HOME!”

For more information about the program, how to help out or where to send you cards and treats; please visit their website at www.lettersfromhome.org.  They are always looking for more soldiers and sailors to add to their mailing list.  Monetary donations are always welcome to defray costs of postage.
